Gary L. Arends, D.O.

Board Certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine

Dr. Gary Arends Dr. Arends specializes in primary care sports medicine and non-operative orthopedics. He is an Ironman triathlete and a former All-American in Track and Field. He knows the rigors of athletes and what is necessary for success. He is adept at biomechanical analysis and musculoskeletal evaluation. Dr. Arends uses his skill to improve function and allow patients and athletes to return to desired levels of activity. He has a special interest in athletes and athletic performance.

Dr. Arends has worked with numerous colleges, universities, high schools and semi-professional teams around the country as a team physician or consultant. He continues to provide medical assistance as a team physician to local schools. He is on staff at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Glendale Adventist Hospital, Verdugo Hills Hospital and Alameda Surgery Center.

Dr. Arends completed his medical degree at Des Moines University – College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He went on to a family practice / sports medicine residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Arends then finished his sports medicine fellowship with Michigan State University. He is board-certified in Family Practice/ Osteopathic Manual Therapy, and fellowship trained / board-certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine.

In addition to his formal training, Dr. Arends is an avid competitive triathlete and is able to provide his patients with real world knowledge in proper training techniques, biomechanics and the importance of sound nutrition. He is a member of the LA Tri-club and has competed in Ironman distance triathlons.

Dr. Arends lives in Brentwood with his wife Julie, also a non-operative sports medicine specialist. He looks forward to meeting you and keeping you on the path to good health.
